ROCKWOOD MUSIC HALL - FRIDAY, JUNE 15TH (10pm)
FINALLY, A HOMETOWN SHOW!
I’m back from a nice run of shows in Europe, and I haven’t done a hometown date since Union Square back in September. Lately I’ve played at Rockwood as a hired gun for other folks, but I haven’t been back there to do a gig of my own in quite a while. Flight attendants always say, “Be sure to put on your own oxygen mask before assisting others” – so I finally listened!
And hey, it’s a FREE show! We also reserved “Rockwood zero” (the little bar next door) for the afterparty. I’ll just pick up the van the next morning. Come out and join us, won’t you?
Jefferson Thomas (guitar, keyboards, mandolin)
Zach Jones (drums)
Pete O’Neill (bass)
Lorenza Ponce (violin)
Jeremy Powell (sax)
Sam Hoyt (trumpet)
BACK FROM EUROPE
Speaking of Europe, I had some great shows over there and some good press…although one review from Germany is print only, so we can't just pop it into an online translator; we'll have to have one of our German operatives decode it for us. But I’m sure it says I was the greatest thing to hit Germany since Schnitzel. I also got a nice review from the opening show in the UK. I closed out the run in Denmark, back for a second straight year doing their “Geyser By The Sea” concert series at Kulturhuset Islands Brygge on the river right in the thick of downtown Copenhagen.
I killed some of the seven-hour flight home from London sipping bloody marys and going through tons of photos and crafting this wacky little retrospective. We also got some great video from a couple of the shows, which I’ll post soon. And now I’m back, just in time for…
ANOTHER SUMMER WEEKLY RESIDENCY AT JOHN SCOTT'S
SUNDAYS, MAY 27TH - SEPTEMBER 2ND (TWO SHOWS; 5pm and 7pm)
Back again for another summer residency at John Scott's in the Hamptons! I'm forever grateful to the wonderful, supportive folks who run this place. They give me the freedom to do whatever I want musically, and I've never had a more fun and fulfilling gig.
New JT songs, old JT songs, some cover tunes, a little bit of stump-the-band, and a lot of tequila - with a chill party vibe in front of a great audience, outside by the beach under the most breathtaking ocean sunsets on always-gorgeous Dune Road. Always the best place to test-drive new music. Never before has "research and development" been so much fun...
PARAMOUNT THEATER SHOW, WEDNESDAY, JULY 25TH (8pm)
I’m brushing up on my rock history here. Apparently, it’s still one of the most nefarious splits in rock history; John Fogerty famously picked up his ball and went home decades ago, and for a long time an epic legal battle over the name “Creedence” ensued. However, the other dudes were finally able to use it, and they have been touring for several years as “Creedence Clearwater Revisited”, playing all their classics. And I’m opening for them at the Paramount Theater in Huntington NY (OK, that’s about an hour from NYC, so it’s almost another hometown show). Which means after I do my thang, I’m gonna get to sit back and soak in this frigging legendary, grooving rhythm section. What an honor to open for - literally - rock royalty.
FALL U.S. TOUR KICKS OFF IN HOUSTON, FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 14TH
AT THE LEGENDARY MCGONIGEL’S “MUCKY DUCK” (9:30pm)
This is my first time playing Houston, and the name of this place kinda had me thinking, “What in hell…?”, but apparently, it is the premiere new music venue in Houston and has a long and distinguished history of bringing in established national names, breaking acts like Ray La Montagne, and…taking a gamble on guys like me on a Friday night.
Just the other night in NYC I happened to meet some guy from Houston, and he said, “Whoa – you’re playing the DUCK? On a Friday? No WAY! Dude…” So I’m relieved - I mean excited - about this! We have other dates in Texas as well as the southeast and west coast coming in for the fall and winter, so when there’s an actual itinerary, we’ll announce it.
We finally have some videos from the Union Square show back in September. Come on, you know you love to watch! CLICK HERE
And you know you love to listen! PLAY HURT has been out for about six months now, so maybe it’s not new, but it’s the newest. And all those old-world anachronistic download sites like iTunes and Amazon and those high-falutin’ streaming services only have the “stock” version (fourteen tracks). The only place you can get the expanded edition (twenty-one tracks, including alternate versions and live versions) is right here!
